Personal protective equipment (PPE) are garments or equipment created to shield the wearer’s body from harm or disease. Protective equipment is designed to address a range of hazards such as physical, electrical, heat, chemical, biohazards, and airborne particulate matter. It can be worn for occupational safety and health reasons related to work. Protective clothing is worn over regular clothing, and it can resemble a cleanroom suit in terms of appearance. The goal of personal protective equipment is to minimize employee exposure to dangers when engineering and administrative controls are unable to sufficiently lower these risks to safe levels.
